The IC24 (converted J/24) is a proven design with ample cockpit space, tiller driven, swift, responsive and safe; the ideal boat to learn on and a fun boat to sail. These boats go well in both light and heavier breezes and are easily handled by two people. IC24s are tiller steered as opposed to wheel steered, which greatly enhances the boat's reaction time to a person's movement of the tiller. This is of paramount importance when learning how to sail.
Course Structure and Curriculum
Basic Keelboat is taught in three days and is structured to teach both theory as well as practical, with 1 hour of classroom followed by 4 hours of on the water training each day on days 1 and 2. Day three is dedicated to 4 hours on the water to hone the skills and principles that have learned. This is a terrific course for beginners, promoting the correct and best way to learn and it is also an excellent review for those who do have some sailing experience.

Your training will cover the US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification requirements. Testing for the certification is optional. The certification fee is included in the tuition and includes course text, logbook, exam fee and one year membership to the US Sailing Association. (For those whose ultimate goal is to achieve their Bareboat Cruising certification, Basic Keelboat certification is the prerequisite).
