Swain Sailing is now offering powerboat training for every level of boater, in partnership with American Boating! Whether you’re stepping aboard a powerboat for the very first time or looking to sharpen your handling skills, our courses are designed to build confidence and ability on the water. Together with American Boating, we’re proud to deliver AB 101, 103, and 104 - progressive training that takes you from the basics of safe operation through to advanced seamanship and navigation.

Beginner Powerboating - AB 101
Prerequisite: None
Certification Available: AB 101 Beginner Powerboating

Step aboard and discover the essentials of recreational powerboating. Over two immersive days, you’ll gain the skills to handle a boat safely and confidently, covering navigation, seamanship, and boat handling from the ground up.
Intermediate Powerboating - AB 103
Prerequisite: AB 101
Certification Available: AB 103 Intermediate Powerboating
Locations: BVI, Rhode Island
Build on your foundation with training aboard larger vessels between 30 and 45 feet. This course develops your seamanship through boat systems, weather awareness, emergency procedures, and advanced docking, preparing you for confident single-day cruising in moderate conditions.
Advanced Powerboating - AB 104
Prerequisite: AB 101, AB 103
Certification Available: AB 104 Advanced Powerboating
